A Little News About Mary Marquiss 2016 Art & Cookbook Creation Classes at COCC

Bend artist Mary Marquiss will be teaching classes next year and offers a unique art project that is drinkable!

PAINTING A SCENE FROM VENICE, ITALY
SATURDAY, JANUARY 16, 2016
9 AM TO 3:30PM
COCC

I captured this scene on a trip to Venice, Italy many years ago. As the gondola turned a corner in the canal, these geraniums popped against the ancient neutral stone!

This class is for students with previous watercolor experience who want to explore painting an architectural scene using transparent and non-transparent (Gouache) pigment.

An “art kit” will be provided to use for the day so you don’t have to invest in all the art supplies. The cost of the kit is included in the class fee of $69. If you have favorite brushes, please bring them to the class along with a lunch!

CREATE A COOKBOOK IN 2016 WITH YOUR OWN ILLUSTRATIONS
APRIL 9, APRIL 30, AND MAY 21
9 am to Noon
COCC

Every few years I offer this cookbook creation class. If you have ever wanted to create a cookbook and want to have it ready to give to your family for the holidays in 2016, then save these three dates!

The first class will focus on the structure of the book. In the second class I’ll step you through a playful process of stamping illustrations with herbs and produce to grace each page.

In the third class, you’ll create simple watercolor illustrations to bring color to your pages!
No prior art or watercolor experience is needed. The process is playful and can be done with children and/or grandchildren.

This class is all about food and art – my two favorite topics!

THE IMAGINARY VINEYARDS OF CENTRAL OREGON
Every once in a while I receive a commission that challenges me in a new direction. Bend Wine Cellar approached me to create wine labels for their wine depicting four different iconic Central Oregon scenes in four different seasons with imaginary vineyards in the foreground.
It was a unique commission for sure! I had to combine realism with surrealism.

For Diane’s Winter Zinfandel I drove up to Mount Bachelor before sunrise several mornings to capture the alpenglow and imagine winter grape vines dancing down the slopes. As I brought this image to life in my studio I exaggerated the shapes of the vines to resemble dancing women with a peachy/pink morning glow behind them.

Take a look at the four images and please let me know if you have a favorite!

The first THREE people who respond to me at: mary.marquiss@gmail.com with their favorite label will receive a boxed set of my floral cards!

Bend Wine Cellar has released sets of these 2010 to 2013 Zinfandel wines with my labels from grapes grown in Washington’s Columbia Valley.
These wines will age beautifully through 2025.

To order a set call Bend Wine Cellar at: 541-385-9258

I wish you all a warm and cozy holiday season surrounded by those you love and food that delights your senses!
