A Surprising Twist in Fairy Tale Classic Sleeping Beauty

Whimsy Entertainment Theatre for Young Audiences presents Sleeping Beauty. In this twist on the beloved fairy tale, a traditional storyteller reading from his all too well-known book of Sleeping Beauty is quickly usurped by the story’s feisty villain, the evil Griselda. With a magical spell, she literally turns back the hands of time to show what really happened to “Sleeping Betty.” Fortunately, two good fairies and a magical frog help set the story straight, and make sure everyone lives happily ever after.

Whimsy Entertainment is excited to debut their new Theatre for Young Audiences Troupe here in Central Oregon. Founder Julee Vadnais has been performing for children for 15 years. Starting at Walt Disney World, and continuing as a professional clown and performer, she has performed all over the country and is proud to bring theatre for young audiences to Central Oregon. Sleeping Beauty contains an all-star cast of seasoned local performers from the Bend community.

When asked why theatre for young audiences? “There is something magical about performing for children, it becomes absolutely real for that one hour. They give you an invitation to go back and be part of that world where magic and imagination still exists,” Vadnais says. “They are also the hardest audience, adults are polite and will watch even if they are not completely entertained, children tell you exactly what they think and if you haven’t grabbed their attention they’re gone. It always feels great as an actor to keep children excited and engaged, and to be able to give parents and grandparents a free pass back in time to be part of the magic and create these special memories with their families.” Sleeping Beauty will be performed at Cascades Theatrical Company. The show runs 60 minutes with no intermission. Written by Stacey Lane and produced by special arrangements with Playscripts, Inc.
