Chicago Comes to Life with Cat Call Productions

chicago-4-by derek oldhamWith only weeks until opening night of Chicago at the Tower Theatre, the Musical Vaudeville has come to life.  Dancers are in costume rehearsing with a live b , set pieces are built in place, tickets are selling quickly.
Cat Call Productions’ third musical at the Tower Theatre is big glitzy glamorous.  A cast of 28 includes a 12 piece dance chorus a seven piece live b with a full brass section.  Despite five weekly rehearsals, the cast crew are energized as they see their hard work come together into a piece of art.  
Chicago’s stage director Michael Heaton, who has worked with the likes of Nathan Lane Holly Hunter, is busy working with character actors, costume, lighting set designers to extract every bit of razzle dazzle that this show has to offer.  Scott Wegner, Cat Call’s set designer veteran of Hollywood sets including the film “Beetlejuice,” has crafted moving set pieces for full Broadway effect.
With ten big dance numbers, choreographer Michelle Mejaski has been busy.  And Executive Producer Tifany LeGuyonne, who is a cast member Chicago’s costumer, is watching the process from all sides.  “It has been a treat to work with this team of veteran professionals our cast of trained singers dancers.  At every turn there have been opportunities for all of us to learn from the experience training of those around us.  Chicago has come to life I can’t wait to see it on the Tower stage.”
Cat Call’s previous productions, Cabaret in 2009 Little Shop of Horrors in 2010, played to sold-out crowds at the Bend’s iconic downtown venue.  A preview of Chicago can be seen at the third annual Performing Arts Showcase during first Friday art walk, September 2, 6:30-9pm at the Tower.  The event is a fundraiser for the Tower Theatre Foundation, bringing together local performing artists for an evening of live entertainment.
Chicago: A Musical Vaudeville has been performed on Broadway more than 5900 times since it opened at the 46th St. Theatre in 1975.  The Broadway revival won six Tony Awards in 1997 the 2002 film adaptation won six Academy Awards.
