CO Youth Orchestra Hosts Guest Artist

gearhartCentral Oregon Youth Orchestra will host a 2014 Guest Artist Residency with University of Oregon Professor and violinist, Fritz Gearhart.

 

Gearhart has performed for audiences from coast to coast. He has appeared in major halls around the country including the Kennedy Center, the 92nd Street Y in NYC, Alice Tully Hall and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie.

He is heard frequently on National Public Radio, including past live broadcasts on WFMT Chicago, WQXR in New York as well as Public Radio’s nationally syndicated program Performance Today.

 

Compact discs featuring Gearhart have been released to rave reviews. A sampling from the press: “…a sizzling performance…”(The Wall Street Journal),  “…supple and imaginative…”(The New York Times), “…a superlative evening of musicmaking…”(New York Concert Review), and “Gearhart is a bold assertive player…”(Strad).

All sessions are OPEN to the public. Bring your instrument, active participation is welcomed or to simply observe, as you wish. Extra music and parts available.

On March 9 the Central Oregon Youth Orchestra, the newest youth orchestra program in the country will embark on a first ever residency with the Portland Youth Philharmonic, the oldest, most established youth orchestra program in the country, celebrating its’ 90th season. COYO students will rehearse in side by side with PYP students, working with Portland area musicians and conductor, David Hattner. Students will also attend a concert with the Oregon Symphony and experience world-class violin soloist Hilary Hahn. Additional educational activities and Portland sites will include a backstage tour of the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, the Hatfield Arts Center, a tour of the Oregon Historical Museum and more.
