Central Oregon Writers Guild Saturday Workshop
“Synopses and Back Cover Blurbs”
With author Kathryn Mattingly

When:         Saturday, October 24, 2015 9:30-12:30
Location:    Aspen Ridge, 1010 NE Purcell, in Bend
 Workshop Description:
An effective synopsis is essential for selling your book to a publisher or agent. A back cover blurb is a great tool for explaining, in as few words as possible, what your book is about to a publisher or agent, and especially, to your potential readers. Whether your book is completed or a work-in-progress, reviewing these tools can clarify your intended purpose for your book. A synopsis is nuts and bolts, the blurb an enticement. Neither should be boring or repetitive and both should be clear and precise.

This will be an interactive workshop. We’ll cover the following:

    • What are the elements of a good synopsis and back cover blurb?
    • In-class writing or refining your synopsis or back cover blurb for a book you are writing or plan to write.
    • Reading/critiquing (and possibly reworking) those synopses and blurbs! (11:30-12:30)

What to bring:

      • Bring your completed or rough draft for a synopsis and back cover blurb (or book proposal for a memoir) and any questions for group discussion.
      • Bring your laptop or pen and paper.
