Ham Radio Field Day is an annual event that is both a training exercise and a contest. The American Radio Relay League and the High Desert Amateur Radio Group (HIDARG) are hosting this year’s event in Central Oregon on Saturday, June 23rd, 2018.

Ham radio operators from the High Desert Amateur Radio Group will construct multiple operating stations at the Deschutes County Fairground in Redmond.

The objective is to work as many stations as possible on amateur radio. The event is designed to develop skills to meet the challenges of emergency preparedness as well as to acquaint the general public with the capabilities of Amateur Radio.

The public is invited to visit the station on Saturday, June 23rd, from 1 PM until 9 PM. Use the main gate for the Deschutes County Fairgrounds in Redmond and then go east to the rear of the 4-H Event Center. Signs will guide visitors to the location.

Ham radio operators will be available to discuss “communications preparedness” with people interested in knowing what they can do to stay in touch during disasters. Visitors can learn about a one-day class to get their ham license.

There will be a special station available that will allow members of the public to talk on the air.
