Recently we were happy to meet Kim Furst, the writer, producer, and director of the award winning Independent Film about the  life of the legendary aviator, Bob Hoover. Narrated by Harrison Ford and other notables, this film has been given much acclaim at aviation events and film festivals alike.

Kim has graciously allowed Samson to arrange a private screening of this exceptional film as part of our Prineville Air Fair this weekend in Central Oregon. The Air Fair is being presented with the assistance of AOPA and famed weather expert, Delia Colvin of Fly Rite. AOPA’s Rusty Pilot Program is being held Saturday, October 3rd, from 8:00am til noon, which is free. Delia’s weather analysis seminar runs from 1:30pm to 4:30pm the same day with a half-off price of $50. The Bob Hoover Project: Flying The Feathered Edge will be shown from 7:00-8:30pm Saturday evening, with free admission. Copies of the movie are available for purchase online.

On the following day, Sunday October 4th, between 8:00-11:30am, Samson is hosting AOPA’s No-Pilot to Co-Pilot program, which is to help non-pilots, who fly frequently with companions, better understand what’s going on in the cockpit. This free AOPA program is hosted by Samson in support of our goal to bring more people into aviation, and to make flying more enjoyable.

More information on the Air Fair is available online at: www.samsonmotorworks.com/news , and in the posters below.

As for our progress, we can show the initial carvings of the body plug, which is being accomplished by two individual mold shops being coordinated by our chief structural engineer, Alexander Bondar. The plug is being carved from structural foam, which is then painted with primer and sanded to a Class A finish (paintable finish). Then molds are made from the plugs, and the molds are used to make the body parts. Our bumper is to be made of polyethylene for impact resistance, but the balance of the body will be made from carbon fiber for reduced weight and strength. The images below are of the rear of the vehicle, in the ducted fan section.
