“All the World’s a Stage…”

This Summer, BEAT Children’s Theatre, in partnership with Shakespeare in the Park and Lay It Out Events, presents a week long Shakespeare seminar for young people.  Do you love theatre?  Have you been longing to get to know the Bard?  Then this is the workshop for you!  Over the course of a week, students will be introduced to the History of Shakespeare and his plays – What do we know about this extraordinary playwright?  He wrote HOW many plays?  You will learn about Shakespeare’s particular language (Iambic Pentameter anyone?) and get to know some of his best know literature.  At the end of the week the class will journey to Drake Park to meet some members of the traveling Shakespeare in the Park production and be invited to attend their performance of Shakespeare’s, The Tempest.  There you will get to learn all about bringing Shakespeare to the stage, and how a show goes on the road.

The workshop, taught by local theatre artist, director and actor, Simeon Purkey, will offer students lots of exciting information about Shakespeare, but even more, the opportunity to try some things out for themselves.  This class is all about participation!  Geared toward young people with a budding passion for theatre, as well as those with some experience under their belt, there will be something for everyone.  We invite you to come on down “our actors…” and learn about all “such stuff as dreams are made on…”
