High Desert Chamber Music’s (HDCM) tenth anniversary season, presented by Mission Building and Renovation, continues with their annual Valentine’s Day concert. This year they will present the music and romance of Johannes Brahms and Clara Schumann, performed by pianist Timothy Durkovic, violinist Isabelle Senger and French horn player Laura Brenes. This evening is brought to you by German Master Tech and will take place Wednesday, February 14 at 8pm at the Tower Theatre. Concert-goers will receive a complimentary rose and a custom treat from Goody’s Chocolates.

This concert will debut in Southern California’s Baxter Memorial Series earlier in the month. Laura Brenes, who is the first horn player brought to Central Oregon as part of HDCM’s Concert Series, is Principal Horn for the Redlands Symphony Orchestra, and is an active freelance musician in the Los Angeles area. She can be heard on numerous recent film and videogame soundtracks. Steinway artist and pianist Timothy Durkovic has performed in the HDCM Concert Series several times. Born and raised in Guatemala, he holds degrees from the Juilliard School and the USC Thornton School of Music. Violinist Isabelle Senger is executive director of HDCM, as well as a founding member of the Crown City String Quartet. She holds a master’s degree from UCLA and is a former member of the San Diego Symphony and the San Diego Chamber Orchestra.

A very special presentation by KWAX Classical Oregon host Peter Van de Graaff precedes the concert. Since the Schumann bicentennial in 2010, Van de Graaff and his wife, Kathleen, have been lecturing on and performing Robert and Clara Schumann’s music throughout the country. This talk is free for the evening’s ticket holders and will begin at 7:15pm.

“We are so pleased to have Peter Van de Graaff join us and offer insight into the world of Brahms and the Schumanns,” states HDCM Executive Director Isabelle Senger. “This is also the first time we have had a horn player perform in our series, and we look forward to the response of our Central Oregon audience.”
