Homeslice Show Spices Up Bend’s Art Hop

homesliceDistinctive local artist Sarah Viles, aka the Homeslice, will be showcasing her art, jewelry and fashion on Friday, April 6 during First Friday art hop.  The show will be held at Velvet from 6-9pm and will feature classic cars, comic book art, fashion photography and live modeling.

This show will be Viles’ first big event since last April, when she blew up downtown Bend with her native-punk-inspired art and fashion show.  Since then, she’s shown her work in Portland and Los Angeles and has been hard at work creating new one-of-a-kind pieces with rescued materials, classic car emblems and vintage comic books from the ‘50s to the ‘80s.

The Homeslice (Sarah Viles) is originally from Prineville, but spent almost a decade in Los Angeles before returning to her roots in Central Oregon.  While in LA, Sarah worked as a stylist and owned her own boutique in Hollywood.  The urban edginess and colorful multiplicity of LA continue to infuse her art, jewelry and fashion, but so do her country roots and tribal heritage.  Her art and jewelry incorporate vintage and comic, edgy and traditional, and her juxtaposition of native, folk-art and pop culture elements present delicious irony and beauty for contemplation.
