Know South America at Your Library

The Deschutes Public Library has organized a month long series of programs in September about South America.  The diversity of culture, wildlife, natural beauty and adventure of South America is captivating.   This continent is home to the world’s biggest rainforest and largest waterfall, the Amazon River, the highest mountain range outside of Asia, beaches, wide deserts and icy landscapes, and the ruins of ancient civilizations as well as modern, vibrant cities.  All programs are free and open to the public.

Fly Fishing in the Patagonia
Jeff Perin, local guide and owner of The Fly Fisher’s Place in Sisters takes you on fly fishing journey through the Patagonia region of Chile and Argentina.

The Intersection of Literature and Music in South American Culture
Lewis & Clark Hispanic Studies professor Freddy Vilches gives a discussion highlighting the intersection of literature and music in South American culture.

COCC Geography Instructor Mick McCann gives an overview of the scenic wonders of South America, highlighting the landforms, biomes and climate.

Take a look at the dramatic time period in Argentina’s history with COCC professor Robin Martinez.
