OSU-Cascades Lecture Explores Where Artist Finds Inspiration

Where do ideas come from in art? How does an idea change once an artist starts to develop the project with his or her chosen materials? On Wednesday, April 3, during Oregon State University – Cascades’ next It’s in the Bag lecture, Sandy Brooke will discuss the creation of her series Fate and Luck, a collection of paintings, collages and encaustics.

sandybrookeBrooke will explore if an artist’s inspirational idea changes when the media—oil paint, gouache and wax—changes, or whether that initial idea can transcend across media types.

Brooke, an associate professor who teaches in the fine art and art programs received her master of fine arts in painting from the University of Oregon in 1993. She has exhibited widely, including in the Tacoma Art Museum 2001 Northwest Biennial: Pleasure Craft, and in the National Drawing Juried Exhibition at the University of Utah. She is author of three books, Drawing as Expression, Techniques and Concepts, Hooked on Drawing: Illustrated Lessons and Exercises for Grades 4 and Up, and Hooked on Painting: Illustrated Lessons and Exercises for Grades 4 and Up.

She was the project producer for A World of Art – Works in Progress, a 10-part television series developed for The Annenberg/CPB Project from 1995 to 1997, and was the director and producer for the segment on painter Milton Resnick. She is widely known for her work with K-12 teachers.
