April Featured Artists from Bend, Mountain View & Sisters High Schools
Red Chair Gallery has invited three area High Schools to jury in and sell their artwork as Featured Artists for the month of April.
They have offered three area high school artists the opportunity to sell their artwork through the Gallery as temporary members. The goal was to give the students a “real world” art experience.
Bend, Mountain View & Sisters High Schools were visited by the partner owners of the Red Chair Gallery and student works were juried for placement in April. The artists that created accepted works were asked to sign a 30 day membership commitment which places them under the same sale guidelines that the regular members of the Gallery hold to.
“We wanted to make this experience unique to others students may have had in the past. With this concept in mind, the gallery will get a percentage of all sales and the Partners will have the final say on which works will be displayed for the show.” said Dee McBrien-Lee, gallery director.
Jesse Lockwood of Bend High School, Shannon Carroll of Mountain View and Bethany Gunnarson of Sisters High have all been critical components in putting this program together. They have pre-screened and gathered the artworks and created enthusiasm amongst the students to move this event forward, in addition to their varied day to day duties.
The show kicks off on April 6 with a private artist reception from 4-5pm, where the students can invite friends and family in for a preview. First Friday will begin as usual at 5pm and run until 9pm for the general public. The artworks will be on display and for sale throughout the month of April.
The Red Chair Gallery is a membership gallery with more than 30 local and Oregon artists located in downtown Bend. It is open seven days a week. All artwork is original and includes paintings, ceramics, jewelry, woodwork, photography, fiber arts, glass and mosaics.
