Redmond Library Winter 2012 Art Exhibition

The Friends of the Redmond Library Art Committee present an exhibition of fine art in Winter 2012 Art Exhibition through December 29.

The Winter 2012 Art Exhibition is an annual event for the Redmond Library. This year, forty artists from Central Oregon are participating in the exhibition. Artworks include both two and three dimensional works. In addition to beautiful paintings and dynamic photography, the library is thrilled to include metal sculptures by Deer Ridge inmates. Artwork has been placed throughout the library to enhance the public’s viewing experience.

In addition to the Winter 2012 Art Exhibition, the Art Committee is delighted to feature fused-glass works by local artist, Katie Harris, in the library display case. Harris began her art career as a ceramicist and started working in glass after she retired in Central Oregon. Harris creates both functional and ornamental glass works. Artwork will be for sale with a 20 percent contribution going to support the Friends of the Redmond Library, which sponsors the Art Committee and art exhibits at the Library.

Beyond the Edge: Solo Exhibition by Gillian Burton

The Friends of the Redmond Library Art Committee present Gillian Burton as the featured artist in the Silent Reading Room December through January.

Award-winning artist, Gillian Burton, was born in England. Constable County, the Lake District, the marshes of East Anglia and the Southwest of Arthurian Legend were all part of her earliest memories and infused her imagination. Self-taught, Burton’s early work was in fiber arts including weaving, felting, knitting and basket making.

Three years ago, Burton returned to her art, working in acrylic and then watercolors. Beyond the Edge features Burton’s loose style watercolor paintings employing dry brush, wet on wet and pouring techniques.

Gillian Burton’s artwork has been displayed throughout Central Oregon. Her paintings have received several awards including the Robert’s Field Redmond Airport Juried Shows where she has received the Best in Show award. Burton is a commissioner on the Redmond Commission for Art in Public Places (RCAPP).
