Redmond School of Dance presents its annual High Desert Nutcracker on December 7, 7pm and December 8, 2pm at Ridgeview High School Theatre. Along with more than 50 ballet students from the school, Act I features adults drawn from the community to play the parts of Uncle Drosselmeyer, Mr. and Mrs. Stahlbaum, the Maid and various characters who attend the Christmas Party at the Stahlbaum’s house.
This updated ballet, danced to the familiar Tchaikovsky score, features a slightly dysfunctional family in Act I. Farmers and Rock Chucks dance in the famous battle between the Nutcracker prince and Rock Chuck King. After rollerblading through a Central Oregon snowstorm, Clara and her prince enter the magic land of Central Oregon, full of fishermen, golfers, cowgirls, skiers and mariposa lilies, all presided over by the beautiful juniper berry fairy.
Tickets are $10 Adults and $5 Children under 10, available at www.redmondschoolofdance.com. $12 and $7 at the door.
