Sisters Folk Festival Receives Grant for Americana Arts Outreach Scholarship Fund

Sisters Folk Festival’s Americana Project Arts Outreach Scholarship fund (APAOS) has received a $5,000 grant from the PGE Foundation. The fund is an example of Sisters Folk Festival’s (SFF) efforts to provide enrichment through the arts.

“The PGE Foundation has been a steadfast supporter from the very beginning,” said Development Director, Katy Yoder. “They offered invaluable support in 2001 when the Americana Project first began and have stepped up many times to help us with growing the Americana Project and now this addition to our outreach efforts."

The APAOS began with a $1,000 donation from the Bank of the Cascades and helped cover tuition costs for 14 students.  Sisters Folk Festival is collaborating with Family Access Network to ensure the scholarships are reaching those most in need in Sisters. “We have seen amazing results when students are given the opportunity to express themselves through all kinds of mediums from music and art to writing, quilting and even guitar building,” said Yoder.

The PGE Foundation grant will play a big role in ensuring there are enough funds to provide tuition for Americana Project classes, Sisters Park and Recreation programs as well as other classes offered through the school system.

“Children who are engaged, empowered and encouraged in classes they enjoy, tend to integrate more easily into society and the communities in which they live,” said Yoder. We’re deeply grateful to PGE Foundation for helping us help kids.”
