Folk Festival Winter Concert Series Lineup
This year’s 2012 Winter Concert Series. lineup begins with the fantastic New Orleans Zydeco dance band Jeffery Broussard and the Creole Cowboys on January 23, followed by an intimate songwriter show with Sisters Folk Festival fan favorite Martyn Joseph on February 10. To finish off the series in a big way, female trio Red Molly performs on March 8. All performances will be held at the Sisters High School Auditorium.
Jeffery Broussard is known by many as a Zydeco accordion master and band leader, comparable to the likes of Clifton Chenier and Buckwheat Zydeco. On stage the band has perfected their ensemble approach using fierce dynamics and an irresistible Cajun groove.
Broussard is a torch-bearer of sorts for the Creole music tradition and will provide Zydeco dance lessons prior to the show.
On February 10, singer/songwriter Martyn Joseph will perform his passionate brand of folk music. Joseph’s style of songwriting has been described as fully realized and even lush at times, but retaining a hushed intensity, a spirit of lo-fi intimacy and unhurried exploration. A Welsh singer and songwriter, Joseph has the unique quality of telling a story that seems urgent and important, that touches and inspires at the same time. Martyn has moved audiences with a generosity of spirit, electric stage presence and great songs.
On March 8, the impressive female trio Red Molly will perform their well-crafted melodies that thrive on beautifully elegant three-part harmonies. Anchored by soaring vocals, each “Molly” brings their own flavor to the band, in both playing and songwriting. In 2011, Red Molly will be celebrating their new CD including their newest member, Austin-based songwriter Molly Venter.
