The Sisters Folk Festival announces a fantastic line-up for the 2011 Festival. The Sisters Folk Festival is a three-day celebration of American Roots music from blues to bluegrass. Held September 9, 10 & 11, the Festival will celebrate 16 years of world-class music in Sisters. This year’s performers bring an amazing array of musical talent and diversity to the stage. Artists include legendary California troubadour Dave Alvin, Steve Forbert, Southern songwriter Mary Gauthier and SFF fan favorites Willy Porter and Martyn Joseph. Additional confirmed acts are Chatham County Line, Tony Furtado Band, Anais Mitchell, Joe Pug and the Hundred Mile Band, Rita Hosking and Cousin Jack, Hoots and Hellmouth, Cow Bop, Red Molly, JT and the Clouds, Dala, Johnsmith, Sweet Talk Radio, Matt the Electrician, Hanz Araki Band, Betty and the Boy, Thad Beckman Band, Shook Twins, Nathaniel Talbot Band, Cahalen Morrison and Eli West, Willie Carmichael, the Anvil Blasters, Laura Curtis, Consider the Fox and Heroes of Telemark.
The lineup this year is stronger than ever, and has legendary performers mixed with musicians that hold a great deal of respect and admiration everywhere they perform, but may not be household names. Our goal is to introduce new artists to the Northwest, and our Central Oregon audience, while bringing international artists of stature and longstanding excellence in many genres of music, said Assistant Festival Director Travis Ehrenstrom.
The Dave Carter Memorial Song Writing Contest is held during the Festival. Finalists will perform during the weekend as they vie for a coveted slot in next year’s Festival.
Attracting thousands for the weekend, several years ago, the Festival began a Sustainability Program to act responsibly and recycle, compost and reuse the materials used during the event. In 2010, the Festival lowered its waste by 75 percent.
The Sisters Folk Festival highly encourages the $95 All-Event Pass for the weekend. Day Passes for Friday, Saturday and Sunday are available at Paulina Springs of Sisters and Redmond, FootZone of Bend and the Sisters Folk Festival office.
Partnering with local businesses, schools and community organizations, the Festival brings together music lovers of all ages, backgrounds and beliefs for a magical three days full of old-favorites and fresh music, delicious food, intriguing artisans and leisurely walks between venues.
