Atelier 6000 and The Nature of Words Working in collaboration, Atelier 6000 and Nature of Words present “Broadsides,” a juried exhibition of text and image, mixed media and two-dimensional works open to artists of all ages. Displayed at Atelier 6000 from November 1 – 30, this exhibition will be juried from actual works – not slides or digital images. Major body/image of original work must be printed by hand or letterpress, calligraphy will be accepted for text. No digital reproductions will be accepted. The broadsides may be editioned or unique. Artwork must fit between the parameters of 8x10 (smallest) to 26 x30 (largest). Framing is optional; however, all work should be suitable for hanging: i.e. shrink wrapped or mounted on matboard. Work received by mail should be packaged well enough to be returned in the same carton. Include return postage slip. A maximum of three artworks may be submitted per artist. $10 per piece entry fee. Celebrate Arts! Florence Events Center November 5-13. Applications are available to artists presenting in categories of two-dimensional, three-dimensional and photography, as well as two “Young Artist” categories.  Entry deadline October 15.  Awards will include Best of Show in two-dimension, three-dimension and photography, Young Artists, People’s Choice and Honorable Mention and award winners will be on display through the duration of the show. The Literary Harvest Writing Contest Central Oregon Writers Guild launches the 2010 Literary Harvest writing contest. Deadline September 3; the Seventh Annual Literary Harvest Event October 15 and the Power of Revision Workshops with book editor and author Elizabeth Lyon, October 16 and 17. Prizes: $75 plus a The Nature of Words workshop scholarship for first place. $50 second-place and $25 for third place. The top ten entries will be included in the 2010 Literary Harvest Chapbook which will be available in local bookstores. USCIS National Children’s Art Project U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has commissioned an art project for children across the United States to create images depicting their interpretation of the theme, “We Are America.” This project asks children to draw pictures that answer the question “People have come from all over the world to become Americans. Students Invited To Enter Safety Video Contest Speak Up! from the director’s chair and promote young worker safety and health in a 45-second public service announcement. High school students across Oregon are invited to enter the third annual video contest. The top three entries will take home cash prizes ranging from $300 to $500 and will earn a matching amount for their school.    The contest is designed to increase awareness about safety on the job for young people, with the overall theme of “Save a Friend. Work Safe.” Specific video guidelines are outlined in the contest rules. Students are encouraged to use humor, get creative, and use the message “Speak Up!” while emphasizing ways to protect themselves at work. Deadline Feb. 1, 2011. www.orosha.org/psacontest/.

Art in the Hall Crook County Foundation invites artists to apply to the juried art exhibit at Prineville City Hall. Open to all Central Oregon artists and photographers, amateurs and professionals.
