Call to Artists

Call to Artists Central Oregon Community College is asking artists to submit original works for a juried exhibit, “The Artful Beauty of Science,” which will honor the college’s science and allied health programs. All work should focus on the internal and organic representations of the world of science by interpreting scientific images and concepts and/or art created by scientific methods. Deadline for submissions is July 25. Artists may submit images of two pieces of artwork in the following formats: high-resolution photo (jpg, 300 dpi, about 8” x 10” on CD or DVD), slide or photograph. One piece will be selected for the event poster. There are no fees, and no awards will be given. Marlene Alexander and David Kinker will be the jurors. The Redmond Library 2008 Summer Exhibit - local artists submit up to two pieces of wall art. Deadline: June 6, 3-5p, June 7, 10am-Noon at 827 SW Deschutes in Redmond. Original works only, no classroom work having been completed in the last two years. 541/312-1064

Art Central’s Mirror Pond GalleryMirror Pond gallery holds a formal jury for acceptance into the sales gallery, three times a year. The next session takes place May 14, 2008. Deadline May 12. The Artful Beauty of Science An art exhibition honoring the COCC Science and Allied Health Dept. Fall 2008 Robert L. Barber Library, Rotunda Gallery, Central Oregon Community College. Deadline: July 25, 2008 Submit up to two entries per artist of 2D and 3D art creations that reflect the internal and organic representations of the intricate world of science. Inspiring the artist as creator, giving meaning to art while interpreting scientific images and concepts, and/or art created by scientific methods. Plein Air Painters of Oregon (PAPO) and Mirror Pond Gallery, the Northwest Plein Air Exhibition Run for the entire month of July. The juried show is open to all artists who paint en plein air and reside in the states of Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Northern California. The Arts of Angling June exhibit at Mirror Pond Gallery will include both two and three-dimensional artworks related to mountain streams, lakes, fish and fly fishing. The theme also includes fine traditional angling crafts such as rod and reel work, leatherwork, fly-tying, creels and lures. This is a juried show, open to all media, original work only. High Desert Journal Call for the Obsidian Prize for fiction and non-fiction. Writers are asked to submit up to 5,000 words of fiction or nonfiction. Deadline: September 15, 2008. Be a Part of Bend’s First Annual Street Painting Festival, June 7-8 at the Old Mill District in Bend. Looking for talented and motivated artists to take part in this two-day event.  There is no cost to the artist, but availability is first come first serve.  The street painting festival is a fundraiser in which your individual workspace will be sponsored by a local business or organization, with proceeds going to benefit art education programs in the community. 541/350-1294 or www.balloonsoverbend.com

Call for Film Entries BendFilm Festival announced its 2008 Call for Entries.  Slated for October 9 - 12, the festival features more than 70 films, filmmaking lectures, a frenzy of parties and special events for an audience of over 10,000 patrons of independent cinema. Entries are now being accepted for the BendFilm Festival at www.withoutabox.com, with a tiered pricing structure and a 50 percent discount (subtracted from the appropriate fee based on date of submission) for films produced primarily in Oregon or Washington.  Regular Entry: May 23, Late Entry: June 20, 2008, www.bendfilm.org

Call for Writers The fourth annual The Nature of Words, Central Oregon’s premier literary event, gets underway with the announcement of the third year of the Rising Star Creative Writing Competition for young writers. The competition is awarded at the annual literary festival, scheduled for November 5-9. Prizes will be awarded in fiction, literary nonfiction and poetry in two age categories: 15-18 and 19-25. Winning writers will receive a cash prize, recognition in an awards ceremony in November 2008, and a scholarship to one of The Nature of Words workshops in their winning genre. Oregon Public Utility Commission Seeks entries for a new logo to symbolize the Oregon Telecommunications Relay Service, which uses operators to assist telephone calls between deaf, hard of hearing, and speech disabled individuals and their hearing counterparts and vice versa.  New logo contest is open to deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, speech disabled or deaf-blind individuals.  Students, professional or amateur artists, and graphic designers may participate as long as they represent the deaf/hard of hearing or speech disabled population.  503/378-6611
