The St. Charles Medical Center will host the Watercolor Society of Oregon’s (WSO) Traveling Show until February 28. This collection of 20 award-winning works was selected from the 80 works juried into WSO’s 47th Annual Transparent Media Exhibition, and they feature some of the finest watercolor artists in Oregon.
Nationally acclaimed Juror, Chris Van Winkle, from Glendora, California, originally chose 80 paintings from the many submitted to comprise the fall show, then selected these 20 works for particular merit. The full exhibit opened in Welches at the Resort in the Mountains. The Traveling Show tours Oregon for five months at four locations, including the St. Charles Medical Center, and closes at The Dalles Art Center in late March.
Arts in the Hospital coordinator, Linda Francis-Strunk, stated, “We’re delighted to showcase this diverse selection of original transparent watercolors with art lovers in our region and visitors to the Hospital. This exhibit continues the WSO tradition of featuring a fascinating array of works, from traditional themes to semi-abstract visions, from still lifes to celebrations of nature. Each artist demonstrates an advanced facility to interpret their subjects in dynamic designs with highly personalized color palettes and brush strokes.”
Patricia Leahy-Graff, Eugene, won best of show for her energetic depiction, Cock Fight.
Rita Furnanz, Lake Oswego, won fourth place for her sensuous rendering of a piano concert with Into the Groove.
Harold Walkup, Beaverton, won an achievement award for his imaginative and intriguing composition Sideshow Star.
The exhibition is open to the public daily, at all hours, at the St. Charles Medical Center, 2500 NE Neff Road, Bend.
