The Artists’ Gallery in the Village at Sunriver offers a wide range of original art. Treasures range from original art greeting cards and bookmarks to fine art pieces that are family heirlooms. In the month of January, the Gallery features two fine art standouts — Bonnie Junell, oil painter and Aanton Yakushev, metal sculptor. What better idea than visiting the Gallery for the Second Saturday Celebration and enjoy libations and laughter while viewing the works of these two incredible artists. The fun happens from 4-6pm on Saturday, January 10. Snow attire is more than appropriate, and guests may drop in for a quick visit or spend the entire afternoon.

Bonnie Junell has been a popular and successful painter at the Gallery since the doors first opened. If you have met the artist, you know that Junell is a whirling dervish of energy and talent. Junell labels her painting style as “expressive realist + impressionist painter.” Whether the subject includes snow skiers or local mountains and rivers, just know that each piece is bursting with mood, emotion, and energy. The artist is well known for dynamic depictions of nature and life in and around Sunriver. Her use of a looser approach to painting figures and objects provides realistic scenes, but the color and textures convey the dynamic emotion of the moment. Like all fine paintings of this style, Junell’s pieces are beautiful for use of “marks” made by her brushes and the colors that make the piece sing!

Junell also teaches extremely popular oil painting classes at the Gallery. Oh, and you also get to drink wine and eat chocolate! See the Gallery’s website for additional information.

Anton Yakushev, metal sculptor, is a bit newer to the Gallery. Yakushev has been working with art metal for more than 18 years, and his work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. The artist creates metal works of art of varying themes and dimensions. Each piece is handcrafted with extraordinary attention to detail. Every intricate piece is hand forged from bare metal, no casting involved. Pieces are made from steel with occasional accents of copper and bronze and finished with a unique patina designed exclusively for that piece. What really makes Yakushev’s sculptures and jewelry unique is that detailed pieces in each artwork (there (could be as many as 100) are hand-forged individually and then assembled. The result is an extremely sophisticated form with an incredible eye for movement, flow, and vividness. Every work of art is one of a kind and must be seen to be appreciated.

The Artists’ Gallery is in Building 19 in the Sunriver Village next door to the Mexican cuisine restaurant, open daily 10am-5pm.
