Acting from the Heart Prepares Local Actors for Film & TV

Patricia West-Del Ruth has announced her newest venture in Central Oregon, a series of acting workshops entitled Acting from the Heart for those interested in working in film television. West-Del Ruth has been in the business for many years in a variety of different capacities. From production acting to producing, she enjoys the creative process involved in all facets of the industry; these experiences are the cornerstone of her company, Creative Heart Productions.

The ten-week workshop will start this September will include a focus on improvisation, cold reading, auditioning scene study. West-Del Ruth, with the help of local screenwriters, plans to explore the connection between text, sub-text the imagination as well as the significance of conflict in relation to character development. The group will work towards a documentary for consideration in the BendFilm Festival.

West-Del Ruth believes sharing the emotional inner life of the actor is the touchstone to basking in the spirit of humanity. She states, “Learning how to authentically communicate with others has a magical effect on dissolving self-imposed limitations based on fear. The goal of the workshops is for the actors to learn how to project this spirit of humanity so that they can become better at their craft.”

She also shares her desire to assist local actors find work for the many film television projects being shot in Oregon. Shea Reiner, recently cast for the role of Velma in a CATCALL Productions of Chicago stated, “Working with Patricia before my audition gave me the focus confidence I needed.”

West-Del Ruth began running various workshops in 1999 while she resided in Southern California, however she has always been involved with promoting cinema arts education. From 1999 to 2005 she produced two televisions shows, Cinema Scene Creative Café, where she regularly interviewed television film professionals.

Since moving to Central Oregon in 2005, West-Del Ruth has lent her skills to various local arts culture nonprofits including interviewing Academy-Award winning cinematographer Jack Green, actress Michael Learned director Catherine Hardwicke of Twilight fame. She is an Ambassador for the Independent Film Society serves on the board of directors for KOCT TV the San Diego Film Festival. She is a member of the Screen Actors Guild holds a Masters Degree in Psychology.
