Bend Improv Group (B.I.G) Features Unique Blend of Improv & Local Comics

On March 2010, a group of regulars and not-so-regulars to the 2nd Street Theater stage got together and decided to form an Improv troupe that was a little bit out of the norm from what Central Oregon audiences had seen before. Comprised of actors, fans of the popular television show Whose Line is It Anyway and local comedians, B.I.G.was formed.

After months of practice, the group did their first live performance. They were a BIG hit. Lately, B.I.G. has been performing to near sold out crowds at 2nd Street Theater. Comprised of troupe leader, “The Brad” Knowles, Rachel Lakin, Kelly Myer, Oregon’s Last Comic Standing Winner Jake Woodmansee, Joe Reynolds, Jenny MacKenzie, Skye Stafford, Karen Sipes, Ryan Traughber and Juan Knutsen, B.I.G. performs games audiences are familiar with and some they are not. One of the latest games added to the group’s repertoire, to the horror and delight of audiences, is called Mouse Trap Game, in which participants are blindfolded and barefoot and have to perform a scene created by the audience amidst a floor full of preset mousetraps.

B.I.G. puts a unique twist on their shows by adding in stand up routines featuring both local and regional comics.

“We’ve been able to give some people the chance to try their hand at stand up comedy during our B.I.G. shows,” says Managing Director Sandy Klein. “Comedians love our venue and several have gone on to perform at other venues in the area.”

The next performance of B.I.G. is on Friday September 19 at 7:30pm. Doors open at 7pm. General admission tickets are on sale at www.2ndstreettheater.com or by e mailing 2ndstreettheater@gmail.com $8 (plus fee) in advance or $10 at the door.
