Adam Faucett, David von Schlegell, William Blackart Live at Spoken Motto @ Spoken Motto

Arkansas songwriters Adam Faucett and William Blackart join Bend’s David von Schlegell from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 2 for a performance at Spoken Motto.

Faucett and Blackart are on the road in support of new records, with Faucett’s “It Took the Shape of a Bird” (Last Chance Records) being named to Pop Matters’ “Top 20 Americana Albums of 2018.” Known for his powerful, operatic voice, which the Onion A.V. Club warned “knocks your brain into the back of your skull,” Faucett has drawn comparisons from Tim Buckley to Cat Power to Otis Redding. With the new release he’s continued to expand on a signature sound the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette described as “part folk, part blues, part elemental rock stomp, part unidentifiable cosmic holler.”

A fellow Arkie, William Blackart plays a lo-fi country brand of folk music. With lyrics described as “poetic and captivating,” vocals pegged as “rough and emotive” and guitar work called “hypnotic and spare” (Dakota Discography), Blackart’s influences range from Townes Van Zandt to Leonard Cohen to The Clash.

Blackart is also on the road in support of a new record. “Return,” a collaboration with Faucett, was called “a showcase for Blackart’s powerful, rough-hewn poetry and spare, country-folk meditations,” by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, while There Stands The Glass described the record as “hardscrabble roots-rock, a supplemental soundtrack to the Netflix series, ‘Ozark.'”

David von Schlegell, of Bend-based rock band Cosmonautical, weaves thoughtful lyrics through catchy melodies while blending elements of folk, country, blues and rock and roll, creating a subversive pop sound.
