EQUUS Film Festival Next Tour Stop is Madras Oregon

The EQUUS Film Festival, which will be showcased for its fifth year in New York City, November 17-19, has been traveling around the U.S. and abroad with mini tours along the way. Next on the calendar is a tour stop at the Madras Performing Arts Center in Madras, Oregon.
Hosted by Warm Springs Horse Network, this fundraising tour stop will help orphan foals find a home, all while guests enjoy three days of captivating stories of human equine interaction. In between experiencing films on the silver screen you will also have the opportunity to learn various Tribal traditions and the romance of the horse, as well as meet local artisans, including photography and beadwork designs from Tribal professionals.
In total close to 30 films will be shown and some will even give those present a chance to meet the filmmakers and have their questions answered. Filmmaker Julianne Neal and trainer Bruce Anderson will be onsite when their film, The Edge – Bruce Anderson Natural Humanship is shown. In this film Anderson shows why he believes that man’s capacity to reduce the wild is the cause and effect of mental imbalance. As a boy, he spent most of his time in “Mother Nature’s classroom” learning key tools to balance the mindset; be more AlphA. The impact that horses have had on his life is fundamental to his work which uses a 1000 pound animal to deliver an epiphany: you are merely a steward of this earth. This film was the winner of the 2016 Equestrian Environmental Awareness WINNIE Award.
Yet another feature being showcased is Corrals To Competition and director Tori Kelly will be present to talk to guests. This film is about training wild horses in 100 days. The documentary follows Oregon horse trainer/clinician Stacey Riggs on her journey of gentling, training and riding two wild mustangs for two separate Extreme Mustang Makeover competitions.
While there you’ll want to revel in the local attractions, such as the Deschutes River and Smith Rock. Along the way visit the local winery and whiskey brewery.

THURSDAY, September 21: Sponsor Reception – Traditionally prepared salmon bake, crafted by “Salmon King Fisheries”, at the Warm Springs Museum 6 pm – 10 pm . Nights festivities include a performance of Tribal Dancers from Warm Springs, Photography by Edward Heath and the film “Indian Relay” by Charley Dey.
