On Friday, October 23, Makin’ it Local is putting a slightly irreverent twist on the traditional Fourth Friday Art Walk with Fourth Friday Canned Wine Night, benefiting the Feed Sisters 2026 Food Drive.
From 4 to 6pm, community members are invited to bring grocery bags overflowing with quality, nonperishable food to Makin’ it Local, 281 W. Cascade Avenue. Visitors are strongly encouraged to make the gallery their first stop—because carrying canned tuna, peanut butter, and beef stew around town all evening is admirable, but unnecessarily athletic.
For one night only, guests do not even have to pay attention to the art.
“It’s okay—our artists have given everyone permission not to look,” said Myrna Dow, of Makin’ it Local. “This evening is all about Feed Sisters, helping stock the Sisters Kiwanis Food Bank and moving our community closer to its 5,000-pound goal.”
After dropping off their donations, guests can enjoy conversation, possibly glance at some Seriously Great Art despite instructions to the contrary, and sample refreshing Oregon canned wines, including Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and a selection of sparkling and bubbly varieties.
And because Makin’ it Local is apparently willing to pull out all the stops—or at least open the cookie container—the evening may also feature its famous gingersnap cookies.
All new, unopened and unexpired nonperishable foods are welcome. Items needed most include peanut butter, canned chicken, canned tuna, chili and beef stew.
Donors may also complete an entry form for a chance to win one of three prizes. For those who prefer to donate cash, Makin’ it Local will match the first $500 in cash donations to the campaign.
Feed Sisters 2026 runs through October 31 with the goal of collecting 5,000 pounds of nonperishable food for the Sisters Kiwanis Food Bank. Donations should be delivered to Makin’ it Local during gallery hours.
