High Desert Chamber Music Spotlight Series

A screening of the film The All-Star Orchestra is set for January 25 at the Oxford Hotel in Downtown Bend.

High Desert Chamber Music will be screening Director John Forsen‘s project The All-Star Orchestra, which recently won the 2013 ASCAP Foundation Deems Taylor Award of Excellence. (Due to circumstances beyond our control, the screening of Lynn Harrell Bach Cello Suites will be rescheduled for next season.)

This special Central Oregon premiere of the PBS program features performances of classical concert works by a group comprised of top players from some of America’s leading symphony orchestras, selected and conducted by Music Director Gerard Schwarz.

This special “director’s cut” of the two programs Relationships in Music and Music’s Emotional Impact, focuses on Robert Schumann and his wife Clara, Johannes Brahms (Schumann’s protege), and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and his patroness Nadezhda von Meck, whom he never met. This program will explore the turbulent musical and emotional relationships of these three composers, and the masterpieces that they produced.

Musical excerpts include Brahms Academic Festival Overture, Schumann Rhenish Symphony No. 3, and Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4. Performances are interspersed with interviews with the conductor, musicians and special guests. Don’t miss this chance to view this screening, paired with a Q&A session with the director right here in Central Oregon.  Come discover the world of classical music!
