“Know Transparent” this September with Deschutes Public Library

Let the light pass through and soak up knowledge with “Know Transparent” this September. Reflect on instrumental music and spoken-word poetry together as a contemplative practice. Explore the world and plot of William Shakespeare’s famous play Julius Caesar in a two-part series. Simplify your life with tips and tricks to declutter once and for all. Teens can create a suncatcher to let the light in or craft their way under the sea with jellyfish embroidery and needle felt art. All programs are free and open to the public. Programs marked with an asterisk (*) require registration.

Jellyfish Embroidery and Needle Felt Art*

Mix different types of fiber art skills to create amazing new looks. This class offers an introduction into hand embroidery and needle felting, combining both to create a unique wall art creation. Registration required. Intended for teens ages 12-18.

Painting in Fiber*

Explore how layering sheer and semi-transparent materials can build color, depth, and atmosphere to create a fiber-based landscape “painting.” Registration required. Intended for adults ages 18+.

Clear the Clutter

Learn five essential steps to a decluttered and organized home. Organizing coach Rebecca Plasters has a background in health care that shapes her practical, compassionate approach to decluttering and organization.

Light Passes Through Us*

Explore transparency in personal narrative through this Creative Writing Playshop, where the physics of light will serve as our metaphor. By shifting viewpoints, participants will refract or “bend” memory, reflect on hidden truths, and allow the light of new understanding to shine through. Registration required.

Dear Brutus Part One: Introduction to Julius Caesar

Explore the world and plot of William Shakespeare’s famous play Julius Caesar. This presentation will lead the audience through an exploration of the story of the play using a condensed plot summary.

Create Your Own Suncatcher

Art makes the world more vibrant, so let’s be a part of creating that together. Join a suncatcher-making class to help decorate, beautify, and bring positivity into our homes and lives. Intended for ages 14+.

Explore the opening scenes and moments from Julius Caesar and walk away with a better understanding of the language and appreciation of its poetic brilliance. Audience members are invited to join in with the reading — no experience needed.

Gratitude, Loss and the Liminal

Cultivate silence in the midst of instrumental music and spoken-word poetry. Hear three pieces of live music with space in between each one to contemplate and reflect on how the music and words moved you.
