Writing Tips from Kathryn Mattingly

Award-winning author Mattingly will offer two special events for authors of all disciplines and ability levels. On Thursday, October 22, she will present Choosing Your Genre Correctly at a meeting of the Central Oregon Writers Guild (COWG).

The meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8:30pm at Aspen Ridge Retirement Center, 1010 NE Purcell, Bend. It is free and open to the public. (Note: meetings are generally the 3rd Thursday of the month — this one only — 4th Thursday).

On Saturday, October 24th, Kathryn will offer a workshop at the same location from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The workshop will focus on writing ‘Synopses and Blurbs’ — two elements which are essential for selling a book to a publisher, agent, and reader. The cost is $15 for COWG members; $25 for nonmembers.

Kathryn’s short fiction has appeared in eight themed anthologies and in Dark Discoveries magazine. Her debut novel, Benjamin, was a New Century Quarterly Finalist, and her short story collection, Fractured Hearts, includes 4 award-winning stories. Novel Journey is newly released this fall. Kathryn teaches a novel writing course at colleges in her community. She is a professional editor, guest speaker, and reader/judge for annual literary contests across the country.
