December 27
Oregon Piano Summit: 2 pianos and 4 pianists Gordon Lee, Randy Porter, Ben Darwish and Darrell Grant at the Oxford
8pm
The Oxford Hotel and G2 Strategic today announced the most diverse lineup in the brief history of BendBroadband’s Jazz at the Oxford, as the popular series enters its fourth year.
BendBroadband’s Jazz at the Oxford is a monthly jazz series, presented in the intimacy of Bend’s The Oxford Hotel, featuring three performances on one weekend each month, beginning October 25, 2013 and running through March 15, 2014.
Full series subscriptions are now available on-line at www.jazzattheoxford.com, where detailed artist and show information is provided. Single-show tickets will go on sale September 30th. The deadline to purchase series subscriptions is October 22nd.
“We open with a jazz legend, with the great Les McCann as a special guest with the Javon Jackson Band,” said Executive Producer Marshall Glickman. “McCann’s Swiss Movement, recorded live with Eddie Harris at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1969, represents a seminal moment in the history of jazz. Javon is one of the great tenor players in the world. I can’t wait to hear Compared To What.”
“The lineup is incredible this year,” continued Glickman. “I am especially excited about our December show, which we are calling the Oregon Piano Summit. We will have two pianos and four of the best pianists you will ever hear. We have Bruce Forman, one of our greatest living jazz guitarists; our first Latin show, with Arturo O’Farrill’s Afro-Latin Septet coming in from New York City; incredible vocalist Mary Stallings backed by our good friends Mel Brown, Tony Pacini and Ed Bennett; and the return of the Portland Blues Review, fronted by both Lisa Mann and Andy Stokes. Wow!”
BendBroadband’s Jazz at the Oxford is made possible due to the support of several local companies that are committed to the cultural enrichment of Central Oregon. In addition to BendBroadband, the series is supported by US Bank, Douglas Fine Jewelry Design, Central Oregon Radiology, InFocus Eye Care and The Source Weekly.
“The Oxford Hotel and the Baney family are thrilled to continue to bring world-class music to downtown Bend,” said Ben Perle, Regional Vice-President of Oxford Hotel Group, the parent company of The Oxford Hotel and the Oxford Suites hotel chain. “This year, we purchased a beautiful Yamaha Avant Grand hybrid piano, which not only solidifies our long-term commitment to the series, but also gives us the opportunity to bring in some of our wonderful local musicians.”
The Cosmopolitans, led by Bend-based pianist and drummer Georges Bouhey, will appear every month on First Fridays, and Bouhey will play solo piano on alternating Mondays. Bouhey’s performances will feature several other local pros, as well as student musicians, including Glickman’s son Laz, who is an avid young pianist.
