Art Behind Bars at DRCI Featured at Art Adventure Gallery in Madras

The adults in custody at Deer Ridge Correctional Institution (DRCI) held its first Art-O-Rama Art Show in March. The winning art and the pieces marked for sale will be on display thru May at Art Adventure Gallery with open house May 1 at 5:30pm.

It was a huge success featuring over 17 artists and five poets. From these artists, over 150 pieces were entered for judging by local Madras Artists Coralee Popp and Jim Smith from Art Adventure Gallery. Styles of art were a mix of portraits, landscapes, seascapes and abstracts. The mediums used for this art was pastels, charcoals, graphite, colored pencil and ink. Over 12 visitors and 75 percent of the adults in custody supported the event at DRCI. This event was organized and sponsored by the newly formed DRCI Pro-Social Committee.

Deer Ridge Correctional Institution (DRCI) is a minimum-security prison located east of Madras that houses approximately 770 inmates who are within four years of release. It primarily provides education, alcohol and drug treatment and work opportunities for adults in custody.
