Cosmic Heirloom: Buried 400 Years, a short documentary from Bend filmmaker Brian Craig Hinderberger, has been named an official selection of the 17th annual Eastern Oregon Film Festival, taking place this October in La Grande, Oregon.
Following a record number of submissions, the Eastern Oregon Film Festival selected nine feature films and 45 short films for its 2026 program. Most screenings will take place at the historic Granada Theatre in downtown La Grande, with after-parties at festival headquarters and special events planned throughout the weekend.
Cosmic Heirloom: Buried 400 Years explores the suppression and rediscovery of psilocybin knowledge across four centuries. Featuring writer and presenter David Moss, the film brings history, science and personal storytelling together through a family collaboration between two brothers. The documentary was directed by Hinderberger, with cinematography by Jordan Chamberlain.
“Cosmic Heirloom is building incredible momentum on the film festival circuit, and we are excited to travel to Portland, La Grande and potentially other communities to participate in these screenings this year,” said Hinderberger. “It is especially meaningful for a Bend filmmaker to receive this kind of recognition and support across Oregon. Every screening gives us an opportunity to meet new audiences, participate in important conversations and experience the film together.”
Before traveling to La Grande, Cosmic Heirloom will screen at the Oregon Short Film Festival at Portland’s Clinton Street Theater on September 20.
Central Oregon audiences will have an exclusive opportunity to see the film in Bend during Song of Sunset: Underground, taking place October 24 at Silver Moon Brewing. The curated live-cinema production will combine original documentary films, live music, filmmaker conversations and storytelling in one immersive evening.

Cosmic Heirloom: Buried 400 Years is a short documentary investigating the history, suppression and modern rediscovery of psilocybin.
