Evil is Alive & Well in Central Oregon

evildeadIn Rocky Horror fashion, Evil Dead: The Musical is back for its third appearance on the 2nd Street Theater stage, complete with a fake blood soaking Splatter Zone and catch phrases from the popular cult movies, Evil Dead One and Two and Army of Darkness.

Evil Dead: The Musical (written by George Reinblatt, Christopher Bond, Frank Cipolla and Michelle Morris) is directed by Sandy Klein. It was introduced to Central Oregon in 2009, and its campy dialog, catchy tunes and over the top characters soon gained popularity among theater goers and non theater goers alike. The highlight of the 2009 production was a surprise visit from B movie icon and star of The Evil Dead series and Burn Notice, Bruce Campbell.

2nd Street Theater brought the show back in 2010, featuring most of the same cast. Fans of both the movies and the musical flocked to the theater from around and outside the state. After a hiatus in 2011 and numerous requests, Evil Dead: The Musical is back with a whole new cast.

The tale is the same…five college students go off to an old abandoned cabin in the woods on spring break and one by one get turned into singing dancing zombies, while the chainsaw, shotgun wielding hero, Ash, saves the day. Warning: The show contains adult language and copious amounts of fake blood. While much of the spray will be directed at the front row “Splatter Zone” section, 2nd Street is small and there is no guarantee the rest of the audience won’t get doused.

As part of the zombie fun, Silver Moon Brewing is creating a special Dead by Dawn Red Beer to be launched at the end of September.  Bend Cycle Pub hosted a Zombie Cycle Pub Crawl during the October First Friday Art Hop, and the cast will make guest appearances around town during October to help promote The Monster Ball and Evil Dead: The Musical.

October 12-27, Thurs-Sat. 7pm, Sun. 4pm.
$21 adults, $18 students & seniors & all front row “Splatter Zone” seats are $25.  www.2ndstreettheater.com, Sandy Klein at 541-312-9626 or 2ndstreettheater@gmail.com.
