The Art of Henna

With origins in Egypt, Henna is a plant-based dye that is used to create temporary body art. Practice basic techniques of mixing your henna, composition and applying simple designs. $50 Class Fee + $10 Materials Fee paid to instructor.

DROP IN FIGURE DRAWING SALON

Develop your skills at our Live Model Figure Drawing Salon hosted by Workhouse studio members Christian Brown and Abney Wallace. This drop-in salon features a live nude model and will be open every Tuesday evening from 8-10pm throughout the summer.The salon is open to all levels. News print will be available but participants are encouraged to bring their own easel and materials.
SELF PORTRAIT BLOCK PRINTING FOR KIDS WITH ABNEY WALLACE

In this intro course, offered to kids age 10-14, participants will learn the basic principles of block printing- drawing, carving, and printing by creating their own unique self- portrait.All materials and tools will be provided. Students will receive four finished prints and keep their hand carved block. Some basic drawing skills are helpful but not required. Abney Wallace is a studio artist at The Workhouse. He also works with A6 and has been printing for over 10 years.

Scrap Metal Jewelry Making
Turn junk to gems with artist Marianne Prodehl. Marianne creates her entire line of jewelry from reworking pieces of found metal objects. Explore the endless possibilities of repurposing scrap metal by learning techniques of cutting, sculpting and refining metal from silver and brass trays, recycled copper and copper electrical wire, old necklaces and a plethora of other found objects. You will gain knowledge of the properties of different kinds of metals and ways of connecting pieces together to create striking compositions that can be made into earrings, pendants, broaches, etc. Before you leave class you will have a pair of one of a kind earrings that you have made! Supplies included and no experience necessary!
FABRIC BLOCK PRINTING
Saturday, July 18, 1-5pm $95
In this workshop, led by Natalie Mason, you will learn how to carve your own printing block and transfer your designs to fabric. You will leave the class with your own printed fabric and the know-how to continue your own projects at home. We will provide the carving tools, one yard of muslin fabric, a selection of fabric inks, and list of resources. You are welcome to bring additional, fabric made from natural fibers to print on as well. Because sharp tools are used, this class is limited to adult students.
ENCAUSTIC PAINTING WITH LISA SIPE
Sunday, July 19, 11am-3pm $125
Learn the basics of working with encaustic in a hands-on exploration of this ancient wax art form. Encaustic is composed of beeswax, resin and pigment, applied hot, and fused to produce works that are translucent, sculptural and rich.
You will learn how to:
Prepare Your Surface, Make Encaustic Medium, Mix Color, Fuse Encaustic, Layer Color and Work with Stencils. The goal of this one-day workshop is to become comfortable with encaustic and finish 1-2 pieces of artwork. The workshop includes all wax and encaustic media and two 8×8 inch deep cradled wood panels. If you have always wanted to try encaustic this introduction is a great way to get started! No experience is necessary for this class, all you need is the desire to learn something new and have fun.

Spend a fun evening painting with beer artist, Karen Eland. Basic painting techniques will be taught as we explore beer as a medium, all while enjoying delicious, local beer from Worthy Brewing. All skill levels welcome, but you must be 21 or older.

Dip your nose and your paintbrush into a delicious cup of coffee from Sparrow Bakery while artist, Karen Eland, walks us through creating beautiful images with this ingenious medium! Basic techniques will be taught and Karen will give one-on-one help too. Why not get a little creative over your Sunday coffee!
