Art in Bloom at Artists’ Gallery

(Nesting Bowls and South Sister Eclipse by Bill Hamilton)

“I paint flowers so they will never die!”
~Frida Kahlo

This quote by Frieda Kahlo exemplifies the feelings of many of the 35 local artists at Artists’ Gallery. We all seek to capture the moment of fleeting beauty in our mind’s eye, via photography, painting and every artistic medium.

Our two featured artists for April each capture the beauty of Oregon and the promise of spring and summer with their beautiful renditions of color and flowers.

Bill Hamilton’s use of color to capture a moment in time… beautiful poppies with a snow-covered Mt. Hood as the backdrop. At the Gallery, you will find a wide variety of images from Bill — from artful birds to our Cascade mountain range — all with a special eye for color. “I continued to draw all through my school years,” said Bill. “After high school, I enrolled in Oregon Technical Institute’s two‐year program combining commercial illustration and technical illustration. My day job was drawing and painting for various aerospace and research companies. My ability as an easel painter continued to improve. By that time, I was painting in oil, watercolor and acrylic, both at work and for the galleries.

“In 1993 our family of four moved to Oregon. I have painted full-time since then, showing in several Oregon galleries and continuing to show in California galleries. To sum it all up, what a gift! I am a grateful man.”

Blue Spruce Pottery has been a much-loved, unique and functional style for over 45 years in Central Oregon. Enjoy your morning coffee in a cup that captures the Cascade Mountain range perfectly. Their latest design will display flowers in an Ikebana-style vase. “Our pots are made one at a time on a potter’s wheel or hand-built from slabs of clay. We make all our clay and glazes from the raw materials. Our clay formula was developed by Michael Gwinup, and the glazes are all recipes that have been tried and tested over the years.

“Our stoneware pottery is all functional pieces that are food safe. It is fired in a gas kiln to 2,200 degrees, cone 10. This makes the clay exceptionally durable. All our stoneware is made to be used and enjoyed. It is lead-free, dishwasher and microwave-safe.

“The mountains of Central Oregon are our main inspiration. We try to bring the beauty of the landscape into our work. We feel truly fortunate to live in such a beautiful place and to be able to make a living doing what we love.”

Visit us for our monthly Second Saturday, April 11, from 4-6pm, and party with the gallery artists! Wine and nibbles will be served.
