Artists’ Gallery Sunriver Celebrates Locals

Each year, the Artists’ Gallery Sunriver celebrates our local community and gives back during Locals’ Weekend. Locals (and visitors) are invited to join in fun activities, giveaways, sampling tasty local treats, listening to music, and mingling with the artists while bringing donations for the fall food drive. This year’s Locals’ Weekend runs Saturday, September 12 from 10am-7pm, and Sunday, September 13 from 10am-5pm.

The gallery is home to local artists from painters, potters, glass artists, fiber artists, woodworkers, metal artists, jewelers, and photographers, each with their own way of seeing Central Oregon. All weekend long, you can watch them work, ask questions, and get a real feel for how each piece starts. If you have never been to the gallery before, this is the perfect weekend to come see what we are about. If you’ve been here, you can get to know your favorite artists better.

It starts Saturday morning with a treasure hunt throughout the village. Participants should drop by the gallery to get instructions. Then on Saturday from 4-7pm, you’re invited to the party. Come sample delicious food from some of Sunriver’s favorite spots, Josie K’s Deli + Kitchen, Sunriver Brewing Company, and Hot Lava Baking. This year we’re happy to bring back Mark Barringer and Jo Booser to play a good time musical tribute to the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. Mark grew up in the San Francisco Bay area and has played with musicians across many genres, from rock and rhythm and blues to folk and bluegrass. He is known for his strong vocals and guitar, and is always a fun addition to the evening.

Sunday brings mimosas and treats from Hot Lava Baking from 11am-1pm, more demos from 11am-4pm, and a chance to make your own watercolor card from 1-3pm.

Along with community and celebration, this weekend is about giving to those in need in our community. This is our ninth year filling Don’s Truck for Sunriver Care and Share, our local nonprofit that provides meals to families in South Deschutes County. Last year our goal was 2,500 pounds of non-perishable food. This year, with your help, we can beat that goal. We ask our community to join in by bringing non-perishable food items or a cash donation for those in need, so together we can fill Don’s Truck once again. Bring in your donation and get a raffle ticket for a chance to win art, jewelry, and fine crafts, generously donated by our artists.
