Bend Author & Podcaster Shannon Ables to Discuss New Book at Roundabout Books

Roundabout Books will host Bend author Shannon Ables as she celebrates her latest book, Savoring the Sojourn: Contentment through the Seasons as You Unearth Your Masterpiece at an in-store and simulcasted event on October 1 at 6:30pm.

A key part of successfully creating or learning anything new involves understanding the process. With the wisdom of Mother Nature’s four seasons, paired with the expertise from researchers of positive psychology, professional musicians, business educators, psychologists and philosophers, Ables teaches the four-part cycle of bringing a masterpiece to completion while savoring the journey.

When we learn how to savor each season on the calendar, our ability to understand the four-part cycle of creation: acquisition of new skills, assessing, adjusting and then finally, releasing, eases our mind so we can commit fully to creating. This understanding then becomes something to savor as well.

Specific ideas for savoring the four seasons in all areas of life—everyday routines and rituals, decorating our sanctuary, cultivating a garden, cooking with ease, and much more — fill the four seasonal chapters of autumn, winter, spring and summer.

Each chapter also includes skills to strengthen true contentment. Discover the benefits of mindfulness practices, how to regulate the nervous system for stability to find enjoyment in stretching ourselves to complete each masterpiece, and learn how to strengthen self-trust in the journey.

Ables has lived in Bend since 2015, and shares her life with her four-legged companions. She founded the internationally-enjoyed blog The Simply Luxurious Life in 2009 and debuted the podcast The Simple Sophisticate in 2014, followed in 2018 by the cooking show, now available as the Intro to French Cooking online class. She has published four books and writes and teaches about how shifting the focus to quality rather than quantity in every area of life elevates the everyday, regardless of one’s age, income, gender or relationship status.

Ables is a frequent traveler to Britain and France, enjoying the countryside of both countries as well as the urban culture of Paris and London. When the croissants of France and the tea and rain of Britain aren’t at her fingertips, you will find her at her cottage home, walking local trails with her pups and savoring the natural beauty of Bend.
